It seems every week I spend in ISM becomes increasingly exciting and focused. This week I had the pleasure of interviewing Seth Gordon, an animator from Explosm and a freelancer currently working with Microsoft. I feel incredibly grateful to be able to interview professionals about their animation careers as well as their college experiences at SCAD, where Mr. Gordon graduated from, and where I want to attend. Mr. Gordon was extremely helpful in providing me with advice for a successful career at SCAD, and his knowledge and enthusiasm for animation really focused my goals for a future in animation. I told him about the ISM program, including the interviews and the final product, and he suggested that I keep the final product small, like modelling a character rather than trying to create an entire short film. The interview was also great because we discussed mutual connections from Brazen Animation, a studio where I am currently working to schedule interviews.
So far I have conducted three face-to-face interviews and one phone interview, and I am in the process of scheduling two more in-person interviews. I am looking forward to those interviews because I have narrowed my focus regarding which questions to ask and what information to seek out. The more I talk to these professionals, the more confidence I gain in the fact that animation is definitely the field for me!
